A Town Called Mura Mura

Devlog 01

Diary Entry No.1

Hello there! Its taken me an age to write this post as I haven't felt like this would ever go anywhere. However whist the progress has been slow I've started to make decent strides into something that i believe can be shaped into a game I would want  to play.

I'm only making a proof of concept for now before I change the codebase to something more appropriate - as personally I don't think JavaScript and electron is the best way forward.

the game revolves around Arron, and his move to another town. Its setup is akin to Stardew Valley. But plays more like a dating sim where every interaction is building to something and meaningful. The game is about hard work and making something of yourself when life has pre-decided not to bother with you. Not your typical adult game I know but Its going to be one focused on life choices, hard-work, harem, comedy and a transition of the main character from looser to accomplished.

If you want to know more about the story and vibe feel free to read the rest of this post. Ill go more into the systems and have screenshots in future posts.

Thanks for reading!

Brief Backstory

Arron is twenty-four and, by his own measure, hasn't done anything with his life. He grew up cross-country from where his mother grew up, under a father (James) whose high standards mostly covered for his own failures, and the message Arron took from it was that he wasn't enough. By his early twenties he'd folded in on himself: jobs he didn't finish, a relationship that ended badly, too many days on a screen with no real plan.

After hearing about the mess his grandson has caused himself -  Gordon arranged a move - got Betty to offer the spare room, told Layla, and finally got Arron to agree to the move so it wouldn't feel like an intervention. As far as Arron's concerned, he's just crashing somewhere cheap for a while. As far as Gordon's concerned, this is the last real attempt to light a spark before everyone finishes writing the kid off.

The town won't simply fix him - it just hands him doable things and doesn't make a fuss when he inevitably gets them wrong.

Arron's arc

Arrives: closed off, reluctant, avoiding everything and everyone.
Early game: small tasks at the maker space and the bakery; he becomes visible by being useful before he means to be.
Mid game: invested despite himself. Real relationships forming, the town treating him like he belongs, and him quietly panicking about both. Begins to understand the real reason Gordon arranged the move.
Late game: invested in the town and the people, new friends, new businesses, new routines. Does he realise that he wants the town as much as they want him? Can he stop running himself down long enough to stay?
